CBI knocks HC door for Gali’s custody

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 5:40 pm

The AP High Court on Tuesday posted to October 24 the petition filed by the CBI that sought nine more days of custody of mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy and his associate B V Srinivas Reddy in the illegal mining case.
The CBI moved the HC challenging the trial courts order that refused the custody of the accused for interrogation beyond the first 15 days time limit.
Though it may be a norm for the courts to allow police custody only within the first 15 days of the arrest of the accused, the same need not be applied uniformly in all the cases, the probe agency said. The CBI earlier got six days custody of the accused and could not make much headway in their questioning.
The judge, Justice Raja Elango, notified the respondents and posted the case to October 24.
He also posted the quash petition filed by Gali and his associate to the same day.
