Telugu Desam Party will provide free education to students below poverty line, construct free housing costing Rs. 1 lakh each and enhance the pensionc sum to Rs. 500, if the party regains power in 2014, TDP president N.Chandrababu Naidu promised on Wednesday.

Reiterating that support to BJP led National Democratic Alliance was a major lapse and the TDP withdrew support to it after the Godhra massacre, Naidu said while addressing party functionaries in a constituency-level meeting on Rayachoti market yard premises. Not paying serious attention to the free power supply promise was another lapse , he admitted.

The TDP president said that the state coffers were empty when TDP regained power in 1994 as the congress party had squandered the public wealth . The TDP had improved the financial position, provided basic amenities to people and developed the State till 2004, the TDP president asserted.

On the other hand, the Congress governments which succeeded him  since  2004 ruined the State and entrusted lands and mines to their cronies. Having a dig at Congress MP K. Chiranjeevi, Naidu said he tried in vain to emulate TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao and started Praja Rajyam and merged the party with Congress in no time.
