Condemning the remarks made by the YSRCP that the stoppage of releasing advertisements to the Sakshi television channel and newspaper was an attack on freedom of Press, former minister and TDP senior leader V.Rambhoopal Chowdary said that irregularities were different from freedom of press. There was a clear distinction between the two terms, he said.
Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, the TDP leader said that BJP leader Bangaru Laxman was awarded four years imprisonment for taking Rs 1 lakh as a bribe in connection with the ‘cash for vote scam’ and YSRCP chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was also eligible for the same kind of punishment as the latter amassed crores of rupees using his father and Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s office.
He alleged that YS Jagan earned crores of rupees through dubious means and the CBI was probing into the case only on the directions of the Supreme Court and the High Court. Referring to the resignation of MLC SV Mohan Reddy, Rambhoopal Chowdary said that Mohan Reddy had resigned from his post fearing to face disqualification and the people would not consider his resignation as an act of sacrifice for Jagan.
In fact, the freedom of speech was suppressed only in the regime of YS Rajasekhara Reddy. He harassed some media owners and took action against them, said TDP district unit president Somishetti Venkateswarulu. He said that the YSRCP leaders had no moral right to seek votes from the people as their party was involved from large scale of corrupt practices.
