The statement by Jr NTR on Saturday evening that he had no differences with the TDP and that he would be working for the party for ever has come as a great relief for the party leadership, particularly its president N Chandrababu Naidu.
In an interview, after the release of his latest film, Dammu, Jr NTR said that certain things were happening without his involvement. “Many things are being attributed to me and I am at a loss not knowing how to react”, he said.
The stoic silence maintained by Jr NTR and his father N Harikrishna for quite some time had led to speculations that there were serious differences between the Nara and Nandamuri families. Harikrishna not playing a role in the party activities and his absence from the politburo meetings gave credence to such speculations.
Vallabhaneni Vamsi, TDP’s Lok Sabha candidate in 2009 election, meeting YSRCP president Jaganmohan Reddy at Vijayawada and hugging him in public was also seen as an act which was encouraged by the father and son.
Referring to this recent controversy, Jr NTR said he had nothing to do with it and said, “Vamsi, for me is just a producer of the film Adurs”. He clarified that he is with TDP and will continue to be with it. “Why would I differ with the party which was founded by my grandfather? If I take a stand once, I will stand by it till my last breath,” he stressed.
On joining politics, he said he is just 28 and too young for politics. He said, “I do not know anything about politics. At a later stage, may be after 25 years or more, I may or may not enter politics.” He also denied that there were any differences between him and other family members. “I campaigned for the party in 2009 with a particular objective and that will remain unchanged.”
He hoped that this would put an end to the ongoing controversy that there were differences between the party leadership and his family. “Whatever, I or my family is today, is because of the blessings of my grandfather and hence there is no question of distancing from the party”, NTR said.
There were also speculations that the differences between the two families arose since last Mahanadu as Naidu wanted to promote his son as his successor in TDP. Though Naidu denied any such move, the speculations did not die down. Political circles now say that Naidu’s brother in law, N Balakrishna played a major role in bringing the rapprochement between the two families.
